Vocal Ensemble Irrevocable

Vocal Ensemble Irrevocable consists of 16 young, enthusiastic singers from the Leiden, The Hague and Delft region. Twice a year we perform concerts, such as our previous projects: Springlevend, Even stil and Geen Woord te Veel.

Our next concerts Lux et Nox will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022 in the Stadsklooster in Utrecht and Saturday, November 5, 2022 in the Heregrachtkerk in Leiden. In these concerts we explore the contrasts between light and dark, with music by Brahms, Whitacre and Diederik van der Laag and others.

Would you like to sing along with Irrevocable? At the moment we have no vacancies, but you can always send us an email: ensemble.irrevocable@gmail.com. If there are auditions again we will let you know here and through our social media channels.

Also follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube! There you can find photos and videos of previous concerts, behind-the-scenes looks and all updates on upcoming concerts.

Singers wanted!

Irrevocable is looking for enthusiastic chamber choir singers (alto/tenor/basses) aged 18-35, for our upcoming project ‘Van Nature!’ in May and June 2022. Together with conductor Kurt Bikkembergs and vocal coach Nicky Bouwers, we will explore the relationship between man and nature as it has been depicted in varying music from the past till current times.

Although you are not required to speak Dutch fluently, you do need enough understanding of the language to be able to follow rehearsals in Dutch. The rehearsal week (presence required) will take place on location from Friday evening the 27th of May to Friday the 3rd of June 2022. The concerts will be on the 3rd of June in Leiden and the 4th of June in Utrecht. On Sunday the 30th of January or Sunday the 6th of February, auditions will be held for this project in Leiden.

Contribution will be about €125,- for students and €175,- for those who have employment. This contribution includes your stay and meals during the rehearsal week.

If you are interested in joining, please fill in the following form by the 12th of January:  https://forms.gle/DK2jKyaR2zvf2eXm6

Irrevocable is participating in the Anjeractie!

We have been quiet for a while on our website. COVID-19 restrictions made it impossible for us to sing together, or perform any live concerts. This also impacted our finances…fortunately this time has also seen the start of beautiful initiatives! From the 28th of May until the 5th of June, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds is holding a mobile collection through the Anjeractie for initiatives concerning culture and nature. Irrevocable is also participating this year! You can support us directly through the following link:  https://cultuurfonds.gift/c/mobiele-collecte-2021?p=44238608.

Of course, we did find ways to sing together this last period, even if we could not do this live. We produced two virtual choir projects, one of which is our interpretation of the ‘Ubi Caritas’ of Ola Gjeilo:

The other project we did was specifically produced for the 4th of May this year. It was a virtual performance of the piece ‘Ils dorment’ of composer Diederik van de Laag. This music is very dear to us, as Diederik wrote it for our ensemble to perform on our Remembrance concert in 2019. Diederik was so enthusiastic about this that he also made a recording for our video!

All of this would not be possible without the help of Imco Daniel of Rayscendo. Thank you for all the editing work, Imco!

Christmas Concert

The season to be jolly has started! Although Irrevocable might have seem quiet these last few months, we have been working on a special Christmas program.

This time we will take you on a musical journey through different times and countries. How did the Christmas story inspire different composers to write music? The red thread throughout the concert will be three different versions of the famous ‘O magnum mysterium’, written by Tomás Luis de Victoria, Francis Poulenc and Morten Lauridsen respectively. We will combine this with famous Christmas classics as ‘God rest you merry Gentlemen’, ‘Il est n’e le divin Enfant’, but also the Catalonian ‘Fum, fum, fum’.

Curious? Come join our merry caroling!  The concert will take place at the 23rd of December in the Jacobs Gasthuis in Schiedam (Burgemeester Knappertlaan 59). The concert will start at 15.00h. Entrance is free.
